The Cauldron Born

Cauldron Born cover artby Damh the Bard, 2008

Damh's new album is full of new pagan classics. My favourite is the title track, Cauldron Born, which could become an anthem for the pagan community! Other star tunes are On Midwinter's Day, which I will be singing to myself continuously through December to blot out the usual Xmas musak. I'd really like to go round the streets carol-singing this number with all my friends, in our cloaks, I wonder what the locals will think?

The other festival song, Lughnasadh Dance, is a joyful upbeat jig, but quite a challenge to sing along as the words are so fast!

Interesting ballads are here as well as the upbeat jigs. My favourite of these is Green and Grey, which tells the story of a priest meeting the horned God in the wildwood, and learning that he's really not the devil after all.  A bit harder listen, It's only human, tells of the inhumanity people show, particularly to animals, in a way that no other species ever has.

Damh is up to his usual high standards, giving pause for thought and celebration in equal measure.
